A traditional Garifuna dish usually served with Hudut

  • 3 fresh fish
  • 2 medium coco
  • 1 Tsp salt
  • 1 sml potato
  • 1 Lg coconut
  • 2 sml limes
  • 1 sweet pepper
  • ½ Tsp black pepper
  • ¼ Tsp thyme
  • 1 medium green plantain

Sere with Hudut

Preparation Time: 45 mins.  |  Cook Time: 1 hr.


  1. Clean fish and wash with lime juice
  2. Season fish with salt, black pepper and thyme
  3. Grate coconut and add 2 ½ cups of water to grated coconut
  4. Squeeze water from grated coconut to get coconut milk
  5. Dice sweet pepper, coco, plantain and potato
  6. Pour milk into medium skillet
  7. Stir milk constantly until it comes to a boil
  8. Add sweet pepper, coco, plantain and potato
  9. Cook until tender
  10. Add seasoned fish, simmer until fish is tender
  11. Add more seasoning to desired taste
  12. Serve hot with white rice
